ABOUT GATE 2025 EXAMINATION STUCTURE
For GATE 2025 candidates can apply for only one of 22 papers listed in http://onestopgate.com/gate-2010/discipline-code.asp. Making the choice of paper during GATE application is the responsibility of the candidate
General Aptitude Questions: All papers will have few questions on General Aptitude, apart from core subject of paper.
XE Paper: A candidate appearing in the XE paper has to answer 1.Section A: Engg. Mathematics 2. General Aptitute 3.Any two XE sections B to G.
XL Paper: A candidate appearing in the XE paper has to answer 1.Section H: Chemistry 2. General Aptitute 3.Any two XL sections I to M.
Duration and Exam Type: The GATE exam is of 3 hour duration containing 65 questions of 100 marks. The questions will be both Multiple choice questions and numerical answers type questions. The examination will be Computer Based Test(CBT).
Negative Marking:For 1 mark MCQs, 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer and for 2 mark MCQs, 2/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer. There is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions
Pattern of GATE Paper: In the papers of codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE, Engg. Mathematics will carry 15%, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% and rest of 70% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of paper.
In the papers of codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% and rest of 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of paper.
