The GATE 2010 examination consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration
The question paper will consist of only objective type questions.Each question will have four choices for the answer. Wrong answerscarry negative marks. The deduction for each wrong answer will be 1/3rdor 2/3 depending on type of question of the allotted marks.
Each paper is of 65 question(maximum 100 marks ).
TF and MN paper will be online all other offline
The question paper(Except GG, XE and XL) will be for a total 65 Questions carrying 100 marks divided into three groups:
(i) Group I: Question Numbers 1 to 25 (25 questions) will carry one mark each (sub total 25 marks).
Negative Marking: 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
(ii) Group II: Question Numbers 26 to 55 (30 questions) will carry two marks each (sub total 60 marks).
Questions Q.48 - Q.51 (2 pairs) are common data questions and question pairs
(Q.52, Q.53) and (Q.54,Q.55) are linked answer questions. The answer to the second question of the linked answer questions depends on the answer to the first question of the pair. If the first question in the linked pair is wrongly answered or is un-attempted, then the answer to the second question in the pair will not be evaluated.
Negative Marking: 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
(iii)Group III: Question Numbers 56 to 65 (10 questions) will be General Aptitude Questions
Question Numbers 56 to 60 (5 questions) will carry one mark each (sub total 5 marks).
Question Numbers 61 to 65 (5 questions) will carry two mark each (sub total 10 marks).
Negative Marking: Question 56 to 60 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Question 61 to 65 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
There is no negative marking for question 53 and question 55
