BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre) is reckoned to offer broad spectrum of scientific and technological activities such as having basic laboratory bench scale research to full-scale plant level operations, stretching from classical school of thoughts to the emerging novel fields of interest. Basic and advanced research investigations were in full progress in nuclear physics, spectroscopy, solid state physics, chemical and life sciences, reactor engineering, instrumentation, radiation safety and nuclear medicine.There are different courses for engineering graduates and science post graduates offered by BARC which give them a new way to succeed. Courses such as One year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Post-Graduates and Two-year DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates and Physics Post-Graduates are offered to aspirants who have either qualified in GATE entrance or have appeared or qualified the written test by NPCLThere is an orientation course for Engineering graduates and Science Post Graduates conducted at BARC Training Schools. The trainee who scores a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the training programme would be posted as scientific officers in one of the DAE units including:� Atomic Minerals Directorate of Exploration & Research (AMDER), Hyderabad� Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai� Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd (BHAVINI), Kalpakkam� Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Mumbai� Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore� Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL), Hyderabad� Heavy Water Board (HWB), Mumbai� Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam� Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), Hyderabad� Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL), Mumbai� Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata.All these units have their head offices at the indicated locations and the allocation of successful OCES trainee to a DAE unit is done when the OCES programme ends.Then there is DGFS that stands for DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme where all the selected candidates who secure admission in IITs on the basis of GATE score in specialization as specified are paid stipend and tuition fee to pursue M.Tech course. After successful completion of one year course at IIT, the aspirants can undertake project work assigned and supervised jointly by DAE and IIT guide. After successful completion of M.Tech, they are posted as Scientific Officers in DAE. After joining, the candidates are required to undergo four month orientation course at BARC Training Schools, which is meant to commence with the specific academic requirements of the DAE programs.
