The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board � GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.
Details Of Both Online and Offlne Examination :
ONLINE Examination : Examination using computers where the candidate will select the correct answer out of four options with the help of keyboard and mouse
OFFLINE Examination : Examination in the usual manner as in the previous years where the candidate will mark the correct answer out of four options in an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble.
Before applying for GATE 2010, candidates must assure themselves that they have chosen the right paper, which qualifies them to become eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in. The criteria for postgraduate admission with Scholarship/ Assistantship are different in various Institutes/ Universities. GATE Offices will not provide any information in this regard. For more details, the candidates are required to contact the Institutes/ Universities to which they are interested in seeking admission.
Eligibility Details FOR GATE 2010:
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE :
1. Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
2. Master degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
3. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
4. Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

AVAILABILITY OF APPLICATION FORMS
Information Brochure and Application Form can be obtained on cash payment of Rs 1000/- (Rs 500/- for SC/ST/PD) from the designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone (as given below). Candidates can also obtain Information Brochure and Application Form by Post from the zonal GATE offices by sending a request letter and two self-addressed slips along with a Demand Draft for the amount (mentioned as above) payable at the city of the respective zonal GATE office (for details, Click Here). Application Form can also be obtained from the zonal GATE Offices after handing over Demand Draft for the appropriate amount.
