Plant Stems
Your textbook describes various types of stems, but there are many varieties,
and those in parasitic plants can be very highly modified. Visit "The Parasitic
Plant Connection" and once there, scroll down to " Lists: Orders, Families and
Genera." Under that click on either the heading "Santalales" or "Parasites of
Dubious Affinity". Under these two headings, examine some of the plants in the
photos (you might want to select photos whose descriptions mention stems). Some
of these have more or less ordinary stems, others are very unusual.
Stems and Their Parts
The "Texas A & M University" site presents interesting, concise descriptions of
stems and their parts, along with good photos. Enter the site at "Lab 2:
Vegetative Characters".
